How Do You Make The Best Bourbon Street Cake?

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and prepare your Bundt pan(s) by generously buttering.
  • In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, soda, and salt. Whisk this mixture by hand to ensure even distribution.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat butter and sugars until fluffy (approximately 5 minutes). Remember to stop the mixer occasionally to scrape the sides and paddle with a rubber spatula. Add eggs one at a time.
  • In a small bowl, mix bourbon and buttermilk. Gradually add the flour mixture in 3 parts, alternating with the buttermilk-bourbon mix in 2 additions. Start and finish with the flour. Mix until just blended and smooth using a rubber spatula as needed.
  • Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake until golden and springy to the touch. This takes about 40-45 minutes for a 10- or 12-cup Bundt pan, or 30-35 minutes for a 6-cup Bundt pan.

  • Enhance the cake’s flavor by making it ahead for a day or two.

  • Grease a bundt pan and coat it with ¼ cup of sugar, then remove any excess.
  • Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature before starting.

  • While the cake is still warm in the pan, pierce it all over with a wooden skewer.
  • While the cake is still warm, drizzle the glaze over it.
  • Let the cake cool for 30 minutes before turning it onto a serving plate.
  • Prepare the glaze while the cake bakes, so it’s ready when needed.
  • Using baking spray for your bundt pan saves time and prevents sticky situations, but shortening and flour work just as effectively.
  • Sift the flour with cornstarch or use cake flour for a smoother texture.
  • Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
